The summer months are the perfect time to get outdoors and enjoy the water. Whether it be at a pool, lake, ocean, or any other body of water. There are many water sports available that a beginner can try. Some of the more popular ones are snorkeling, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, bodyboarding, and swimming.
Snorkeling
Snorkeling can be a fun great way to enjoy the water and see some interesting sites. If you go snorkeling at the ocean you’ll be rewarded with views of amazing sea life. You will soon discover a whole new entire world that you’ve never experienced before. Basically, all you will need to snorkel is a mask and a snorkel. You have several options when it comes to a snorkel. You can purchase a straight j type snorkel or a dry snorkel. If you can, go with the dry snorkel. A dry snorkel will prevent water from coming in to the snorkel if you go underwater or tilt your head too far to the side. You may also want to look in to a pair of fins. Fins will allow you to cover a greater distance faster and provide a nice workout for your legs. If you have never snorkeled before, start out in a pool if you can. If a pool is not an option then just walk in to the ocean, going from a boat can be tough. Using a pool or walking in to the ocean will give you a chance to get used to the equipment.
Stand up paddle boarding
Stand up paddle boarding is growing fast in popularity across the world. One of the reasons for paddle boarding quickly catching on is, that unlike surfing, paddle boarding is very easy to learn. Within one hour you can become very comfortable with your board. Stand up paddle boarding is also a major workout for your core. The sport involves you standing up on a surfboard and using an oar to move yourself. This is a warm water sport that is catching on globally amongst the surfing community and celebrities.
Kayaking
Kayaking and canoeing have always been popular water sports. Kayaking can be done in many locations from the easy paddling down calm rivers and creeks. Or the more adventurous white water kayaking. Kayaking gives the boater an amazing upper-body workout. In most kayaks you sit in the boat with a water tight skirt around you to keep the water out. On some other kayak models you actually sit on top of the kayak.
Bodyboarding
Bodyboarding sometimes called Boogieboarding is a surface water sport. The bodyboard is a small rectangular piece of foam that the rider lays on top of as they try to ride the swells in to shore. Bodyboarding is a very easy watersport to get in to. You can pick up a cheap bodyboard to try the sport at most any shop near the ocean. Some bodyboarders also will use a pair of flippers on their feet to help them move quicker across the water. The goal is to catch a wave much like a surfer does, and ride that wave in to the shore.
Swimming
Swimming is a great watersport and a great workout. It takes little to no equipment, you can do it at an olympic sized pool, a gym, a lake, or the ocean. Swimming is a great full-body workout that has wonderful health benefits.
